A new edition of the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks (“Nice Classification”) will enter into force on January 1, 2023. This new edition is available on the website of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), at the following address: https://www.wipo.int/classifications/nice/en/.
This twelfth edition will provide a better set of guideline for the Offices of the Contracting Parties of the Madrid Union, as well as applicants and registrants, of the practice that is followed by the International Bureau of WIPO for the examination of applications for international registration. What is exciting about this edition is the addition of new types of goods and services and in particular such related to blockchain technologies.
