Ms. Divya Shekar

A seasoned Patent Attorney and Practice Head of Chemistry/Biotechnology division at De Penning & De Penning, Divya brings over 20 years of experience in all patent related matters in the life science/chemistry sector, offering strategic counsel in all aspects of patent law, including drafting, prosecution, strategic management, freedom-to-operate opinions and enforcement.

Her perspective gained through continuous practice both as the in-house IP counsel of leading pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies, and with De Penning & De Penning, has given her extensive experience of drafting, prosecuting and coordinating global patent portfolios. She also has considerable experience of handling numerous oppositions, revocations, and appeals, supporting clients with strategic legal advice supported by an excellent track record before the Indian Patent Office and higher judicial forums. Divya also supports clients with drafting infringement and invalidity opinions, conducting freedom-to-operate analysis and due diligence assignments.

Her Masters in Biotechnology from Bangalore University and specialization in Bio-informatics gives her a profound understanding of inventions in the biotech/life science domain, while her technical expertise acquired through years of experience as a patent attorney means, regardless of the specific technology vertical, she is able to think divergently to approach a legal issue without losing sight of the technical details. Divya has a vast experience in a variety of technological domains with particular strengths in applied chemistry, consumer products, formulation chemistry, food science and medical devices. The diversity of her patent experience coupled with keen legal understanding allows her adopt ingenious strategies enabling the best result for each matter.
